Quality Issues
Quality assurance of organic food and natural goods as well as further development of quality standards are vital concerns of BNN Herstellung und Handel (Organic Producers and Traders Association). The association adopts quality guidelines and recommendations, for example the BNN Flavour Recommendation and the resolution about declaration of all product ingredients. The BNN Monitoring for fruit und vegetables in the organic food sector as well as the BNN database for oil analyses complete the established process controls in the whole food sector and is currently in progress.
During the annual general meeting of the association, the member companies decide on priorities of quality issues. Since 2001, the development of quality guidelines is supported by an advisory council. The advisory council consists of Prof. Dr. Thomas Simat and Dr. Günter Lach (both food chemists), and Martin Rombach, chief executive officer of “Prüfverein ökologischer Landbauprodukte e.V.” (a German inspection body).
